The last time the Mauritshuis organised a large travelling exhibition was in the eighties of the 20th century. In 2012 and 2013, a selection of important paintings from the Mauritshuis’s collection (including Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring) will be going on a world tour.
The first stop is Japan. The exhibition will be on show from July until mid-September 2012 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. This major art museum in Tokyo is known for its large temporary exhibitions from leading international museums such as the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay. The paintings will then travel to Kobe, where they will be displayed in the City Art Museum until January 2013. After this the group of works will travel to three different museums in the United States.
